Parliament of the World’s Religions-Melbourne
WEDNESDAY 9TH DECEMBER 2009, MELBOURNE
Thursday 3rd to Wednesday 9th December, 2009 MELBOURNE CONVENTION & EXHIBITION CENTRE
First held in Chicago in 1893, the Parliament of the World’s Religions brings together the world’s religious and spiritual communities, their leaders and their followers to a gathering where peace, diversity and sustainability are discussed and explored in the context of interreligious understanding and co-operation.
Since 1993, a Parliament of the World’s Religions has convened every five years in a major international city – this year is Melbourne’s turn.
Over seven days, delegates will choose from over 450 activities, including daily morning observances of many traditions, keynote addresses, seminars, debates, performances, concerts and exhibitions.
His Holiness will attend the Parliament on the last day, Wednesday 9th and participate in a reception with younger attendees to the Parliament and address the Closing Plenary.
In today’s world, understanding between people of different traditions is not optional. It is essential. The 2009 Parliament will give people of faith, spirit and goodwill new reason to say that peace is still possible.
