Who is Dalai Lama in Australia?

Dalai Lama in Australia Ltd is a not-for-profit organisation incorporated under the Corporations Law of Victoria Act 1981 [ACN: 093 226 389].

The organisation is overseen by a five (5) member 'Board of Directors' nominated at an annual general meeting upon recommendations by the Tibet Information Office, Canberra. The organisation’s constitution provides for contracted staff as required, to oversee operational activities of the visits and organisation. The General Manager is delegated responsibility for the daily operations of Dalai Lama in Australia, following direction from the Board of Directors and the Tibet Information Office.

Our office is located in Paddington, Sydney.

We are a non-profit charitable organization funded through the sale of tickets to His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Australian public events, Friends of the Dalai Lama in Australia and donations from supporters and benefactors.

The History of Dalai Lama in Australia and the formation of

Friends of Dalai Lama in Australia

Dalai Lama in Australia was formed in 2000 after it was recognized that His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visits to Australia required a more structured and managed approach.

One of the founding Directors still sits on the Board of Dalai Lama in Australia today and was also involved in the earlier Australian visits of His Holiness.

The main area of responsibility of Dalai Lama in Australia since its formation has been to oversee and manage His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Australian visits. Dalai Lama in Australia has undertaken this task for a total of six (6) out of the nine (9) visits His Holiness has made to Australia so far. It will also manage the forthcoming 10th visit in June 2015.

During the 2013 Beyond Religion visit, His Holiness advised that he would endeavor to travel to Australia every couple of years for the next 10 years or so, whilst he was still able to do so. At the completion of the 2013 Beyond Religion visit, Dalai Lama in Australia saw that there was a need to create an opportunity for people to stay connected to His Holiness between his visits and hence, developed the concept of Friends of Dalai Lama in Australia.

Friends of Dalai Lama in Australia is an 'individual subscription' option available for people to offer ongoing support for His Holiness’s visits to Australia and a means to stay connected and involved with a community of like-minded people.

To become a Friend of Dalai Lama in Australia, requires a $120 per annum subscription and entitles Friends to:

· Opportunity to select & book seats at Public Events 24 hours prior to public release

· A link to a weekly downloadable, 90 second inspirational messages from His Holiness

· A gift pack of “Essence of Tibet” Incense

· Invitations to Friends special events (film screenings, musical concerts, art exhibitions)

· The Australian “Red Thread” email newsletter for Friends of Dalai Lama In Australia

With the introduction of Friends of Dalai Lama in Australia, Dalai Lama in Australia will be able to offer financial support to the Tibet Information Office and other organisations and to undertake special projects that reflect the wonderful contribution His Holiness’s has made here in Australia.

Subscription is ongoing for 12 months or more and can be paid in full or monthly. If paying monthly, a commitment to making 12 equal * monthly payments to Dalai Lama in Australia, must be received.

* Please refer to the Terms & Conditions for the use of the Monthly Installment Plan

We are very grateful for all support received.

Note:

Did you know that there are very few charitable organisations able to claim deductible gift recipient (DGR) status?

This means that while Dalai Lama in Australia is a registered charity, we do not have DGR status.

Thankfully, the wonderful attendees, supporters and benefactors over the years, have not let this influence their decision to continue to offer either financial support of His Holiness’s visits to Australia and or attendee the public events for the requested attendance ticket price.
